He is in a self-imposed trance, which often happens when a chap is infirm and alone in complete darkness for many hours. A nice slap to the face brings him back to reality. He struggles and strains against the iron cuffs, showing off his priceless physique. Removing the hood discloses a very gracious face, perhaps that of a juvenile executive.
