Only a consummate specimen of youth and athleticism could proceed to struggle and lift his body after hours on the cross. Still, the strain on Wade Russell’s muscles and limbs is unbearable. At seven hours, the 18-year-old hangs flaccid, his belly sucked in, his chest unable to inhale, until that guy forces himself vertical another time, crying in anguish, his entire body shaking, his pang and exhaustion palpable, his lean flesh glistening with sweat, each muscle fiber willing to burst, until that guy is lastly cut down, collapsing to the ground, the unfathomable wounds from the whip still visible on his back and wazoo. No lad has ever suffered so beautifully.
